WANT TO REDUCE YOUR DRIVING TIME TO THE
OUTER BANKS?
Here are some suggestions to reduce your
driving time to and from the Outer Banks.
Although most of the rentals are from Saturday
to Saturday, there are a lot of houses that rent
Sunday to Sunday and even some Friday to Friday
rentals. Since over two thirds of the rentals
change over on Saturday, there is significantly
less traffic on Sunday and very little traffic
on Friday. When you make your reservations for
next year, try to get a Sunday rental or even a
Friday rental if your schedule permits it. Try
to miss the peak traffic periods on the day that
you arrive and depart. If you can arrive by
noon, you will miss most of the traffic. Have
lunch and shop or go to the beach until your
house is ready. Some developments like Schooner
Ridge in Duck have pools and change rooms.
Going home try to leave before 7am or after
lunch. The biggest crunch is between 9am and 12.
Again, have lunch and do some last minute
shopping before leaving and you will miss a lot
of the traffic. Longer range there are
tentative plans for a "mid-county" bridge from
Corolla to the mainland. Our best guess it will
be 5-10 years before this bridge is built. In
the meantime the above suggestions may help.
